Star of Hope Mission – Diaper Drive

The Star of Hope Mission made a personal visit to Newfield's Houston employee meeting in the Joe B. Foster Room on April 28, 2011 to thank employees who donated nearly 30,000 diapers to assist homeless families in Houston. The diaper drive was a competitive effort by employees from the different floors of Newfield's Houston office.

"What a great way to bring you together in a competitive 2011 Diaper Drive," said Mary Cantu, vice president of Development at the Star of Hope in Houston, who addressed the employee meeting. "I want to personally thank Newfield's near decade long support and acknowledge that your assistance has been essential to our helping the homeless in our community, which includes increasing numbers of women and children."

Top honors went to the Newfield "Midnight Crawlers" Team from the 15th floor. Employees on this team donated 6,288 diapers for first place.

Newfield's support of the Star of Hope also included a 2011 donation of $10,000 from the Foundation. It has supported the Mission for a decade with donations of nearly $80,000 during that period.

Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community effort dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children. Positive life-changes are encouraged through structured programs, which focus on spiritual growth, education, employment, life-management and recovery from substance abuse. The Star of Hope has been helping Houston's homeless since 1907 and currently has more than 11,000 volunteers who help in the mission's various programs.

On any given day, there are approximately one thousand homeless men, women and children being helped at the Men's Development Center. The Transitional Living Center for Women and Families and New Horizons, which is the road to a mainstream life. The key to the success of Star of Hope Mission is its comprehensive approach to addressing the diverse issues that impact homeless individuals and families.

Think how much it means to help someone less fortunate; for them to
have a feeling; have a house for their family, have a safe helmet in times of protecting our country, have a bicycle to ride, have a big brother/big sister, have school supplies; have a meal. I was lucky enough to take part in multiple Foundation events. Please participate in 2011 and give someone in need the have feeling.
